Tomas De Jesus Y Guadalupe was born in 1871 in Puerto Rico. His father, Leonardo, was 23, and his mother, Catalina, was 13. He had two sons and one daughter with Romana De Leon De Jesus Y De Leon between 1902 and 1913. He had two brothers and four sisters.
